Plastic Surgeon Appointment

Last week, I confirmed with a general surgeon that we would go ahead with a double mastectomy with reconstructive surgery. They sent me in the a mammogram to see if I could save my nipples. If the test didn’t come back normal they would have to tattoo them on instead. Two days ago I met with a plastic surgeon who laid out my three options. *All of these start with a double mastectomy that would take three hours. 1. Put in spacers until I heal, then put in implants in a separate surgery. However, the doctor told me that some textured implants were causing cancer in patients. Eeek. I was already worried my body wouldn’t do well with implants. Just a hunch. My body is really sensitive to things and I worried they would make me sick and I’d have to take them out. 2. Put implants in the same day.  Same as the first option just all in one day and more pain while healing. Also, I will need the implants replaced every 15 years. 3. Use my stomach to create new boobs aka flap surgery

Gynecologist Appiontment

Yesterday I had my consultation with a gynecologist, to go over what steps I should take to prevent ovarian cancer. I went in assuming I’d need to remove my ovaries or get a full hysterectomy right away. But my doctor told me that they usually wait to remove ovaries between the ages of 35-40 because of the negative side effects it has on your body. Not only would it cause a hormone imbalance but it also causes problems with the heart and bones (I had no idea about the last two). So starting at 30 I will have ultra sounds and blood tests every 6 months to make sure everything is okay. She did tell me that ovarian cancer is seen less in women who tie or have their tubes removed and that would be a good option for now. So we will be removing my Fallopian tubes soon. He didn’t say it but I think Dillons happy about this because it saves him a vasectomy. I was glad to hear it’s a noninvasive surgery. They’ll go in through my bellybutton and another part of my stomach, I get to go home the

Interesting News From My Doctor

So I put  so much of my life online I thought I’d document this Incase it could help someone going through the same thing. I’m not complaining that this is happening, God has blessed me way too much and I’m blessed they found it and can prevent it from becoming cancer. But I’m going to do some blogs about it. I’m not sure if it’s to help me go through my feelings or I just like to talk a lot.  I’ve only had one appointment so there’s not a whole lot to talk about today. So as most of you know my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. She went through chemo and a double mastectomy and hysterectomy. She’s all good now. PTL. But she found out her cancer was caused by a gene mutation called Brca 2. They recommend everyone in the family get tested after that so Sarah and I got tested. Just a simple blood test (mine wasn’t so simple but that’s another story) Because my mom has it we have a 50/50 chance if having it. Sarah doesn’t have it, but I do. So the genetics lady (wha
